Did you know that one in 10 adults in Pinellas County cannot read well enough to perform the everyday tasks many of us take for granted? Tasks such as reading to a child, filling out a job application, or understanding medical information on a prescription bottle?
The Literacy Council of St. Petersburg believes in teaching everyone to read and changing lives forever.
From adult basic education to studying for the GED, we pair adult learners with volunteer literacy tutors for free, one-on-one tutoring.
Step 1: Call 727-521-1117
We will ask you some questions about your goals, where you live, and when you could come to classes. You may need to leave a message. We will call you back. Please leave your phone number.
Step 2: We meet with you
We will meet with you and you will get more information about being a student with us.
Step 3: Take a test
At that meeting, we will give you a test so we can learn more about your abilities and make a learning plan that is just right for you.
Step 4: Meet your tutor
We will match you with a tutor so you can begin your journey.
In order to provide free services to our learners, adults must meet the following requirements to enroll in our program:
